Central's Unified Biblical Studies Program

Central Seminary offers a unified program of graduate education in biblical studies with three graduation options.

The program is designed to equip a student with the skills necessary to competently interpret any part of the biblical canon. The academic objectives of the Seminary are combined with a passionate pursuit of godliness.

The purpose of the program is to “Sharpen Servants for Global Ministry” who can minister effectively in local churches, on mission fields, and who can fill academic positions.

The program is offered in the context of Colonial Baptist Church and is open to all students who have a saving faith relationship with Jesus Christ. Central Seminary is an independent Baptist school committed to the text of Scripture, the Triune God, and the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ.

The Diploma of Biblical Studies is a terminal degree program modeled after the Master of Biblical Studies curriculum, designed to train a student in biblical content, systematic and historical theology, missions, and evangelism. The diploma program is open to qualified men and women who have not completed an undergraduate degree. Central offers this educational option to those who desire to prepare for a support role in the local church or in the work of missions, but whose life circumstances have not allowed the completion of an undergraduate degree.

The Master of Biblical Studies is the first graduation option that requires the completion of twelve three-credit courses for a total of thirty-six credit hours. This graduation option is designed for men and women who desire an effective support role in the local church and in the work of missions. This program can be completed either online or in residence.

The Master of Biblical Studies for Chaplaincy is the second graduation option that requires the completion of twenty-four three-credit courses for a total of seventy-two credit hours. This graduation option is designed to equip students with the biblical content and ministry skills to serve as chaplains in the United States Armed Forces.

The Master of Divinity is the third graduation option that requires the completion of thirty-two three-credit courses for a total ninety-six credit hours. This graduation option is designed to equip a student with the biblical content and ministry skills needed for service in the local church, on the mission field, and within the larger body of Christ. Although this program is only offered in a resident format, one-third of the program can be completed via the CBTS iSchool other distance learning options.

Master of Theology is the fourth graduation option that requires the completion of forty-two three-credit courses. Like the M.Div., the Th.M. is designed to equip a student with the biblical content and ministry skills needed for service in the local church, on the mission field, and within the larger body of Christ. In addition, the Th.M. prepares the student for a variety of teaching roles.
Students who have completed the M.Div. or its equivalent would complete ten Th.M. courses for a total of thirty credits. Two of the ten courses are devoted to thesis research and writing. The Master of Theology is offered in a flexible format with one-week semester modules and independent study options.
