Assistant Professor of Biblical Theology and Exegesis

The Lord captured my life in my high school years. Since then, the path He has set before me has been dramatically different from anything I could have imagined back in those days. Never certain of His design on my life, my undergrad and MDiv years are best described as preparing for an unknown purpose.
Near the completion of my seminary days in Detroit, the Lord unleashed upon me the joy of teaching. I’ve been teaching Bible classes since 1994 with two years of that teaching taking place in Cluj, Romania. Upon returning home from Romania, the Lord opened up an opportunity for me to teach Greek Grammar here at Central Seminary in 1999. Over the years, He has gradually opened additional classes.
In 2003, the Lord brought me a wonderful wife who also shares a heart for ministry. Brenda came home to Virginia Beach (and to me!) after spending seven years of ministry in Hungary. Our two girls, Julia Kanani and Lydia Noelani are precious gifts that remind us of God’s glory and beautiful worktheir Hawaiian names respectively.
It is an incredible joy teaching at Central, if for no other reason than the fact that God is taking men who have come down a similar path that I have and He is launching them into ministry for Jesus. My role is to take the few years as they entrust to me (read: tremendous weight of obligation!) and to train them to think biblicallyconnecting exegetical precision with theological clarity. This is how I understand the Lord’s purpose in my life and I am executing it with great joy.
