DANIEL K. DAVEY, Th.D.
Professor of Bible Exposition

I grew up in a godly, Christian home with the joy of watching my parents model the grace of Christ.   However, I did not make a personal profession of faith until my senior year of high school in 1973.  Upon graduation from high school, I attended a Christian college but without clarity as to what God wanted me to do with my life.  I transferred to Liberty Baptist College, and this is where my hunger for the ministry began.  Upon graduation in 1978, I enrolled in Central Baptist Theological Seminary of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and it was here that I really met with God – He began to shape my heart for ministry.

In 1982, my wife, Martha, and I accepted a call to be an Associate Pastor at the church my dad had started in January 1979.  It was a great joy to serve with my father for five years, and when he resigned in 1987 it became clear that Martha and I should accept the call of the church to become its next pastor.

In 1993, God began to burden my heart with a ministry to “sharpen servants for global ministry.”  In 1995, Central Baptist Theological Seminary of Virginia Beach was founded, and in the fall of 1996 we opened our doors with a total of 17 students.  As I look back over these years, there is no greater ministry-joy to my heart than CBTS.  God has now blessed us with an incredible faculty of gifted men, and a staff of gracious servants.  By God’s grace and for His glory, we now have graduates serving in local churches from Boston, Massachusetts to Cameroon, Africa.

As I ponder the goodness of God to Central Seminary, my mind goes to the words of Psalm 105:1:  Oh give thanks to the Lord!  Call upon His name; make known His deeds among the peoples!  So, with this short testimonial, I call attention to the great name of our God who has providentially raised up CBTS to proclaim His glory to the nations by training young men and women to be Christian servants around the world . . .  May Christ be praised!
