SELAH MOMENT
The call to each of us this morning is for exclusive devotion, to a singular focus, and ultimately to a preserving faith in the person and work of our eternal God.
But there is a problem here. It is a problem for me and perhaps for you as well.
I really cannot give my voice to songs of praise or to any musical expression of worship and adoration if my allegiance is divided and diversified.
I really cannot stand is awe of God when the things of this life capture my attention so that I am not really impressed with God.
I really cannot make any meaningful confession of “To You Alone” when it is never just me alone with the Lord in the situations and circumstances of life.
I really can’t enjoy any satisfying peace when I will not keep my faith fixed upon the person and work of God when the foes and the challenges of life assault me.
So maybe you are saying, that’s right! That’s me and I hate it! My soul is weary with a spiritual ADD (attention deficit disorder of a spiritual kind).
As a remedy for your soul, I invite you to give up, to surrender.
The psalm writer said it this way, exalt the Lord our God and worship at His footstool, He is holy (99:5).
I invite you to worship the Lord as a conquered servant who has surrendered to the footstool of the Holy God of heaven and earth.
Once you do, you give up; once you surrender as a conquered servant, you will be able to worship the Lord with exclusive devotion.
The conquered servants of Christ, the Shepherd King love Him.
The conquered servants of Christ, the Shepherd King stand in awe of Him.
The conquered servants of Christ, the Shepherd King safely walk through every situation of life with Him.
The conquered servants of Christ, the Shepherd King enjoy His satisfying and unshakeable peace.
